Aluminum Anodizing from Thermoprene produces electronic enclosures in many sizes
and materials. Extrusion is an inexpensive method for
production of enclosures and lends itself well to the design
of card slot features, heat sink fins, and screw bosses for
attaching end plates or caps. Most enclosures are
produced as a single, hollow profile, which can be cut to
different lengths depending on the enclosure requirements.
It is necessary with some designs and some materials
(especially plastics) to produce the enclosure from two mating
parts. In some cases these mating profiles are
identical, and can be flipped to mate with itself.
Sometimes two unique profiles are required to produce the
enclosure. Plastic enclosures and other hollow design
shapes can be limited in terms of features inside the hollow
void. Since the features on the inside of the hollow do
not get as much air or water flow for cooling, those features
can be difficult to control. Many plastic enclosures are
produced in two pieces so that card slots and screw bosses can
be cooled and vacuum calibrated as any other solid profile
would be.
