Plastic Extrusion Glossary
Extruded Plastic is our business!
Extrusion - Extrusion is a manufacturing process that is to shape metal, plastic or rubber by forcing through a die. THERMOPRENE specializes in the custom manufacture and supply of plastic extrusion, rubber extrusion and aluminum extrusions. We have the extrusion capabilities and extrusion expertise to competitively meet your most challenging polymer & aluminum forming requirements.
Nylon - Nylon can be described as a strong tough elastic synthetic polyamide materials that are fashioned into fibers, filaments, bristles, or sheets and used especially in textiles and plastics.
Plastic Extrusion - Plastics extrusion is a high volume manufacturing process in which raw plastic material is melted and formed into a continuous profile. Extrusion produces items such as pipe/tubing, weather stripping, window frames, plastic sheeting, adhesive tape and wire insulation.
Polycarbonates - Polycarbonates can be described as any of various tough transparent thermoplastics characterized by high impact strength and high softening temperature
Polypropylene - Polypropylene or polypropene (PP) is a thermoplastic polymer, made by the chemical industry and used in a wide variety of applications, including packaging, ropes, textiles, stationery, plastic parts and reusable containers of various types, laboratory equipment, loudspeakers, automotive components, and polymer banknotes.
Polystyrene - Polystyrene is a polymer of styrene, a rigid transparent thermoplastic that has good physical and electrical insulating properties and is used especially in molded products, foams, and sheet materials
Polyurethane - Polyurethane commonly abbreviated PU, any of various polymers that contain NHCOO linkages and are used especially in flexible and rigid foams, elastomers, and resins (as for coatings).
Abbreviations:
- ABS - Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene
- HDPE - High-Density Polyethylene
- PETG - Glycol Modified Polyester Terephthalate
- PTFE - Polytetrafluoroethylene
- PVC - Polyvinyl Chloride
- TPE - Thermoplastic Elastomer
- UHMW - Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene
